Committee records multiple health‑care and licensing bill introductions

At the opening of the Committee on House Health and Human Services meeting members introduced a series of bills that committee staff entered on the record.

Representative Beulah introduced multiple bills, including 25RS0549 to allow licensure and practice of anesthesiologist assistants (introduced on behalf of the Kansas Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistance), and 25RS0467 on behalf of the Kansas Optometric Association to adjust optometric scope of practice. Representative Beulah also introduced 25RS0752 for the Alzheimer’s Association to impose additional licensing requirements for assisted living dementia care; 25RS0025 on behalf of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce to join the respiratory care interstate compact; 25RS0431 to create an advanced practice registered nurse interstate compact; and 25RS0824 to enact a physician‑assistant licensure compact. Representative McDonald introduced 25RS0482 on behalf of Casino Employees Against Smoking Effects (CEASE Kansas). Steve Kearney appeared for Compass (a biotech/pharmaceutical company) to introduce 25RS007 proposing a change in federal‑scheduling definitions for a specified compound (psilocybin), and Representative Bryce introduced 25RS0639 to expand inspector general authority over state cash‑for‑food and health assistance programs as well as 25RS0471 on behalf of Kansans For Life to require KDHE to provide caregiver information regarding the status of abortion law in Kansas. Representative Essex introduced 25RS0466 designating the first week of February as Kansas Burn Awareness Week. The committee chair also introduced several committee bills concerning the Hospital Access Improvement Program, the Kansas Healthcare Scholarship Act, a waiver process for rural emergency hospitals, and a procurement change for managed care organizations.

Committee members said they would accept those bill introductions without objection; the chair announced the bills were entered.
