Klamath County honors HR for paid‑leave plan savings and emergency management for AED distribution

Klamath County commissioners recognized two staff achievements during the Jan. 28, 2025 meeting: the county’s in‑house paid leave plan and the emergency management department’s distribution of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to law enforcement.
Commissioner Minty read a staff recognition noting that the county’s in‑house paid leave Oregon plan saved employees $173,178.81 in 2024 compared with what employees would have paid under the standard Oregon plan, which the staff summary said would have required employees to contribute 6 percent. The board thanked the human resources department for administering the in‑house plan.
The board also recognized Emergency Manager Ian Thigpen for procuring 10 AEDs for the sheriff’s office to place in patrol vehicles and stations. The presentation said the county previously distributed seven AEDs in March 2024 and assigned one each to Merrill and to Milin, bringing the county total distributed to law enforcement in 2024 to 19 automatic external defibrillators.
The chair framed both recognitions as monthly staff success highlights; the board did not take further action on either item.
