Monroe City Council on Tuesday formally adopted the city’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) transition plan from 2021, approving Resolution 2025‑003.
Scott Peterson, city staff, explained the document was developed beginning in 2019 and finalized in 2021 after a consultant inventory and assessment. He said the plan documents barriers in city facilities and proposes prioritized remediation. "We initiated on this journey in 2019, and we finalized the plan in 2021," Peterson told the council.
Peterson said the city has already been working on ADA improvements informally since 2021, citing curb ramp and noncompliant ramp fixes tied to the city’s transportation benefit district work. The plan was prepared by a consultant identified in the agenda bill and aligns with the comprehensive plan, Peterson said. Council Member Beaumont asked whether the document would be updated to reflect the city’s current signage on the introduction page; Peterson said there was no intention to reopen or revise the plan as part of adoption.
Council Member Walker moved to adopt Resolution 2025‑003; a second was recorded and the motion passed unanimously 6–0. The record notes the vote immediately followed staff presentation and council questions.
