County manager announces new opioid coordinator, runway funding deadline extended, veterans farm issues progressing

HARNETT COUNTY — County management reported several administrative updates: an internal hire for opioid task force coordination, progress resolving issues at a Veterans Farm site, and an extension of a runway funding deadline through recent state legislation.
County staff introduced Charlie Pelosi as the county’s new opioid task force coordinator and management analyst. The manager said Pelosi “brings a wealth of knowledge” and will be working from the county suite; commissioners were asked to introduce themselves to the new coordinator.
Staff also reported they had worked with a Veterans Farm representative to resolve problems related to placing homes on the property and that the work had progressed so the project is “back on track.”
On an airport runway project, county management said a funding deadline that had been Oct. 1, 2025, was extended by law in the last legislative session to an “until expended” status. Staff said the next step is to complete land-appraisal work necessary for a planned land purchase; once the purchase is completed the county will proceed with environmental studies and other state-required work.
The manager also noted there was no need for a closed session and the meeting adjourned after a motion to adjourn.
