Franklin New Rotary seeks city approval for 75th-rodeo monument ahead of 2026 celebration

Representatives of the Franklin New Rotary on Jan. 28 asked the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to endorse a proposal to install a permanent monument honoring the Franklin Rodeo’s 75-year history ahead of the 2026 event.
Pat Dunn, speaking for the Franklin New Rotary, said the rodeo has drawn attendees from 46 states and 16 countries across its history and that the club has raised about $1,000,000 since 1949 to benefit local charities. The club proposes a sculpture of a saddle bronc rider by a nationally known sculptor and asked the board to approve installation before the May 2026 rodeo.
A city official noted the proposal would go first to the city’s Public Art Commission and that staff would work with the applicants to identify an appropriate installation location. A volunteer with the rodeo urged the board to help move the process along to meet the event timetable.
No formal vote was taken; the board acknowledged the request and directed staff to coordinate with the applicants and the Public Art Commission on location and permitting steps.
