Board approves early learning and out-of-school program fee changes, expands summer camp and enrollment dates

The Monroe County Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees on Jan. 28 approved changes to early learning and out-of-school program fees, a change administrators described as intended to align prices across sites and to cover increased operational costs.
Administration recommended the following changes for center-based programs: infant care from $1,100 to $1,150 per month; toddler care from $1,000 to $1,100 per month; and the 3-year-old preschool program at district centers from $900 to $1,000. The district will keep school-based 3-year-old preschool at $800 because that fee covers only the school day; center-based fees represent longer (11-hour) days and include meals. The board also approved standardizing extended day fees to $8 for morning and $8 for afternoon sessions across sites.
Trustees approved raising Adventure Camp tuition from $75 per week to $100 per week beginning this summer. Administrators said the change is the first fee update for Adventure Camp since at least 2018 and is intended to offset wage and material cost increases and to support an expansion that adds pre-K programming and a fourth two-week session.
Doctor Dowling explained the equity rationale for the recommendations: families eligible for the federal free or reduced-price meal program will continue to receive extended day funding through the district27s 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant, and Adventure Camp scholarships will continue to be offered for families in need.
Enrollment dates approved and announced by administrators include: 3-year-old preschool enrollment beginning Feb. 3; infant program reenrollment at centers beginning Feb. 24; Adventure Camp enrollment starting March 3; 4-year-old pre-K enrollment beginning March 10; and extended day enrollment for next school year beginning April 7.
The motion to approve the changes was moved by Brandon, seconded by Ashley, and the board voted to adopt the fee schedule as presented.
