The Los Angeles City Council on Jan. 28 unanimously confirmed Angelique Perez as the District 1 appointee to the Community Forest Advisory Committee.
Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez introduced Perez for the appointment and described her outreach work. "She is our CD 1 appointee for the Community Forest Advisory Committee and has built tailored outreach plans and strategies for authentic community engagement in different neighborhoods across Los Angeles," Hernandez said. "She's conducted community volunteer events to support annual tree planting, and with goals that she's had for over a 1,000 street trees, which she's done and moved forward."
The confirmation came after Hernandez invited Perez to address the council. Perez told the chamber she was "very excited to be a part of here. I'm excited to represent CD 1." She said her priorities include extending urban greening efforts, promoting native tree species, and creating volunteer opportunities to strengthen stewardship in Pico Union and other neighborhoods.
The council recorded a voice vote with 15 ayes to approve the appointment.
Perez will serve as the District 1 representative on the Community Forest Advisory Committee, a body that advises the city’s urban forestry efforts. Hernandez emphasized Perez’s door-to-door outreach and community volunteer events as qualifications for the position. Perez said she aims to "fuse the council districts and provide volunteer opportunities so we can bond with our community and also express the stewardship in the urban forestry that's definitely needed, to provide a resilient California."
Perez’s confirmation does not, in itself, alter departmental budgets or program rules; the appointment fills a seat on the advisory committee and positions Perez to participate in the committee’s recommendations to city departments.
The council moved promptly to the next item after the vote.
