The Friends of Middleborough Cemeteries requested an extension and submitted reimbursement invoices at the Community Preservation Committee meeting on Jan. 15.
Committee members reviewed the organization's open grants: a FY25 grant of $15,000 and an earlier FY24 balance of approximately $1,600; combined with prior balances the clerk reported roughly $27,100 available across two open grants. Committee members said one grant line is specifically for headstone cleaning (including purchase of D/2 cleaning solution) and another covers additional cemetery repairs. The Friends had submitted an invoice described in the transcript as "almost $16,000" for recent stonework (Colonial Stone was named as the vendor in discussion). The committee moved to approve the invoices presented and the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, the Friends asked to extend an older grant; committee members agreed to defer a decision on extension length and asked the Friends' representatives to appear at the committee’s February meeting to explain timelines, remaining needs for D/2 cleaning solution, and the intended use of remaining grant balances before granting an extension.
