Local business owner Christopher Van introduces himself to Cultural Council, submits application for membership

Christopher Lee Van, a Middleborough business owner, introduced himself during the Jan. 9 meeting of the Middleborough Cultural Council and said he has submitted paperwork to Jay McGrail to be appointed to the council.
Van said he co-founded a local project called BorrowBot and that he has experience with nonprofit and corporate governance at his other locations. "I've actually kind of been on the outside of this ... I decided, you know what? This is something that I at least had some part to directly," Van said, explaining his interest in joining the council and helping program events.
Council staff explained the process: Jay McGrail will review the application and, if he advances it, the Select Board will hold a public vote. Van said he plans to meet with Jay and, if confirmed, hopes to assist with the veterans agent–led Revolution 250 planning and other council projects.
No appointment was made at the Jan. 9 meeting. Staff told Van how to follow up with Jay McGrail and said most applications are forwarded to the Select Board for a public vote.
