Council recognizes Mililani Iike Elementary as 2024 National Blue Ribbon School

Council member Okimoto presented an honorary certificate recognizing Mililani Iike Elementary School after the U.S. Department of Education named the school a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School.
Okimoto said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona announced the winners on Sept. 23, 2024, and that Mililani Iike was one of 356 schools nationwide honored for overall academic excellence or closing achievement gaps. Presenters said the school serves nearly 460 students and that its performance exceeded statewide averages in English language arts by 15 percentage points and in math by 30 percentage points.
Okimoto and other presenters described programs and services at the school including a K–5 world languages program (Japanese), a math lab, a multi-sensory learning program that targets early literacy, competitive robotics and STEM activities, National History Day participation, and extracurriculars such as track, cross-country, volleyball, choir, orchestra and a dance squad. Presenters emphasized the school's emphasis on character education and community involvement.
The City Council recognized Mililani Iike "on behalf of the residents of District 8" and honored the school's faculty, staff, students and families for the award.
