The Bellflower City Council on Monday approved amendments to the employment contracts of the city manager and the city clerk that raise their 2025 salaries.
Staff told the council the proposed adjustments reflect market comparisons and the city’s financial position. For the city manager, the recommended 2025 salary was listed as $281,569 annually, an increase of $10,569 for 2025; staff estimated associated taxes and benefits would increase by roughly $2,690. For the city clerk (listed as the city’s clerical executive), the recommended 2025 salary was $145,547, an increase of $5,463; staff estimated taxes and benefits would increase by approximately $3,392.
Council members noted the increases followed interviews and closed-session review of staff performance and said the adjustments aim to keep the city competitive with peer agencies so it can retain experienced managers. Councilmember Dan Coops moved the contract amendments and Mayor Pro Tem Sonny Santaynez seconded. The council approved the amendments in a unanimous roll call vote.
Staff said the changes will be reflected in the city’s payroll and budget documents and that accompanying benefit and tax adjustments will be processed in the next payroll period.
