Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools reports spring events, scholarships and Fund-A-Need gains

John Deal of the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools updated the Lincoln Public Schools board on Jan. 28 about the foundation's spring calendar, scholarships and fundraising.
Deal previewed the foundation's spring activities, including the Inspire Awards, Thank You Teacher (where the foundation this year is providing $1,000 awards for five recipients), and the Spark Summer STEAM Academy that enrolls roughly 400 students in a nine-week program. He said nomination deadlines and scholarship application deadlines fall later in January and February.
On fundraising, Deal said the foundation has raised about $140,000 so far through Fund-A-Need crowdfunding campaigns and has distributed emergency funds to about 400 students and families this school year, totaling approximately $85,000. "We've raised over a million dollars so far this year toward our goal of $4.4 million by year-end," he told the board.
Deal noted the foundation's role in financing field trips and student experiences, and he urged listeners to visit the foundation's website to learn how to participate or donate.
Board members asked how donors can find active Fund-A-Need campaigns; Deal explained donors can view and give online to listed campaigns. The foundation update was informational; no board action was taken.
