District high‑school teams report literacy gains, outline supports for students below grade level

Middleton High School administrators and Clark Street Community School leaders told the Board of Education on Jan. 27 that a multi‑year focus on literacy, aligned standards and targeted interventions has produced measurable gains but that work remains on equity and students with disabilities.
Clark Street Principal Jill Gerner said Clark Street uses a schoolwide literacy rubric and regular cycles of drafting, feedback and revision. "We use a common set of school wide rubrics for all reading and writing," Gerner said. She described the charter school's competency‑based model and partnerships with Middleton High School instructional coaches and national organizations to assess and strengthen literacy and competency skills.
