Sterlite Technologies touts Kershaw County workforce, Buy America compliant products and broadband market prospects

Sterlite Technologies officials addressed county council Tuesday to thank the county and to update officials on company operations at the Palmetto plant in Kershaw County.
Scott Adams, corporate secretary and general counsel, said Sterlite has exceeded an earlier commitment to create 120 full‑time jobs by 2026 and that capital-investment commitments have already been met ahead of schedule. Adams and plant manager Gehenanath Shinde said the plant produces fiber‑optic cable and components used across North America and internationally.
Adams described federal broadband funding and Build America Buy America requirements, noting Congress has authorized multi‑billion dollar funding to connect households and institutions. He said Sterlite’s products made in Lugoff meet Buy America rules and the company hopes to participate in federal- and state-funded broadband builds.
Council members thanked Sterlite for local hiring and community investment and discussed opportunities to showcase the plant and expand local workforce pipelines. Sterlite invited council members to visit the manufacturing facility for a tour.
