Saucon Valley students honored for SkillsUSA, band and wrestling achievements

The Saucon Valley School District on Jan. 28 recognized district medalists and heard a high school activities report that highlighted recent student achievements in career and technical contests, performing arts and athletics.
Zoe Souvanyak, presenting the student activities report, said Saucon Valley students placed at the SkillsUSA contest, and three students — Molly Morales, Gemma Brown and Lillian Weigand — were selected to sing as soloists at the county choir concert. Steven Botrin represented the district at the PMEA District 10 Band Festival. The district also has nine students participating in Northampton County band activities, whose concert is scheduled for March 15 at Bangor High School.
In athletics, Souvanyak reported the wrestling team won the Colonial League championship and crowned seven individual champions: Gavin Chunko, Carter Chunko, Aiden Grog, Hector Mateo, Jackson Albert, Cole Hubert and Jared Roan. Additional placements noted included Max Santoro as runner-up, Ezekiel Daly third and Gabe Vare fifth. The report closed with results from Scholastic Scrimmage competition, where the Saucon Valley team placed second and several students earned top individual scores.
Board President Cedric Detmar and members invited the recognized students to the dais for brief recognition and applauded the extracurricular successes. The board also heard a superintendent’s announcement about recent alumni association inductions and an invitation to a Unified Bocce event at the high school.
The board did not take formal action on the activities report; the presentation was informational and closed with an invitation to community members to attend upcoming events.
