Sarpy County approves $84,698 contract to replace two outdoor warning sirens in Gretna and Bellevue

The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a task order with Federal Signal Corporation for $84,698 to purchase and install two outdoor warning sirens, one in downtown Gretna and one near Cedar Island Road in Bellevue.
Jesse Arrett, Sarpy County emergency management director, said the replacements are part of an ARPA-funded outdoor warning-siren upgrade project the county has pursued over the last two years. Arrett said each new siren will double the coverage area of the current, obsolete units at those sites.
Commissioner Warren moved approval and Commissioner Burmeister seconded. The board recorded the vote as “ayes 5, nays none” and the motion carried.
Why it matters: Upgrading aging warning infrastructure aims to improve coverage for severe-weather and other public-safety alerts in two population centers in the county.
