Garrett County commissioners commend Northern Garrett football team ahead of state final

The Board of Garrett County Commissioners recognized Northern Garrett High School’s football team on Dec. 2, 2024, issuing a formal commendation as the 2024 Maryland Class 1A state finalist and celebrating the team’s region championship and advancement to the state championship game.

The board’s written commendation, read at the meeting, praises the team’s “dedication, teamwork and perseverance” under head coach Phil Carr and said the season has “brought immense pride to our county.” The document was signed by Commissioners Kitchnell, Savage and the board chair.

The board chair (name not specified) told the team to “win with class, conduct yourself with respect,” and praised players, coaches and families for representing the county in state competition. The board noted Northern Garrett is among the state’s smaller schools to reach the state final and called the achievement a milestone in the school’s history.

Northern Garrett staff and coaches joined commissioners at the front of the meeting for photos. Coach Gore said, “We’re very excited to get to go, and we hope to make everybody proud in Garrett County.” The board reiterated support for the team as it prepares to play the state championship game on Saturday (date not specified in the meeting record).
