Farmersville students report on activities: ASB updates, junior-high recognition and an active FFA season

Students from Farmersville High and Farmersville FFA presented academic and extracurricular updates to the board, highlighting undefeated winter sports, upcoming FAFSA workshop, and FFA competitions, leadership conferences and service activities.
Students and student groups used the Jan. 28 Farmersville Unified board meeting to report on recent achievements and upcoming activities across athletics, student government and FFA.
Associated Student Body President Emmanuel Lopez told the board that boys soccer and wrestling were undefeated in league at 4-0, that girls soccer and basketball were 3-1 in league, and that winter-sport athletes held a combined GPA of 3.0. Lopez reminded seniors of graduation-picture day on Feb. 11 and announced a FAFSA workshop for Jan. 29. He also promoted a winter sports rally planned for Jan. 31 and thanked district leaders for support.
At the junior-high recognition segment, Principal Chris Sanchez introduced the Calderon family and described Eden Calderon’s selection for an All-American event and participation in a Polynesian Bowl-style tournament; family members and coaches said Eden’s performance drew college interest and local fundraising helped cover travel costs.
Farmersville FFA officers and members delivered a longer presentation outlining officer retreats, sectional leadership conferences, county fair exhibitors (20 entries across livestock and poultry), competitions and upcoming events. FFA members reported: two students performed in the National FFA band and a member received an American degree; chapter members will attend state and sectional events in March–May; and the chapter planned community-service and competitive activities including citrus judging and public-speaking contests.
Board members thanked students and staff for their work; several trustees noted community support and the role of volunteers in making student trips and activities possible. The board agreed to pose for a photo with the FFA officer team upon request.
