Farmersville Unified trustees approve routine trips, curriculum, personnel items and budget revision; one abstention on budget

The Farmersville Unified School District Board of Trustees approved multiple consent and action items at its Jan. 28 meeting, including athletic and FFA travel, curriculum documents, personnel appointments and a budget revision. Most motions passed unanimously; the board recorded at least one abstention on Budget Revision No. 3.
During the consent and action portions of the meeting trustees approved the minutes for Jan. 14, 2025 and the release of warrants dated Jan. 9 and Jan. 16, 2025. The board approved a facility-use request from the Central Valley Scholastic Chess Association to use the Farmersville Junior High gym for Feb. 1, 2025, and waived associated fees. Trustees also approved multiple student field trips and club travel requests for FHS and junior high programs, including World Ag Expo attendance (Feb. 13), FFA leadership conferences, speech contest travel, college and career expos, and career-technical education site visits; each trip motion was moved and seconded on the record and carried.
Curriculum and policy items approved included the 2024 School Accountability Report Cards (SARCs), an ethnic studies course outline, and a memorandum of understanding with Alliant International University. Personnel matters approved in public session included certificated and classified personnel changes, extracurricular coaching and activity appointments, and new or revised job descriptions (reading specialist, VAPA coordinator, percussion coach). On one personnel motion (13.3, extracurricular activities/coaching personnel), the minutes record an abstention by John Albers.
In business services the board considered Budget Revision No. 3 and approved it; the minutes record an abstention by newly seated trustee Merced Zamora on that item. The meeting adjourned to closed session and returned to open session to report no action taken on closed-session labor negotiations, public employee discipline/dismissal, or anticipated litigation.
The meeting packet listed each agenda item by number; most motions were routine and carried by unanimous voice vote as recorded on the public record.
