Fort Mill Council presents Christmas parade awards during abbreviated meeting

Fort Mill Township officials presented awards to winners of this year’s Christmas parade during an abbreviated council meeting, council members said. The presentation named winners in six categories and recognized the judges who selected them.

The awards were announced by a town presenter, who identified the judges as Jacqueline Fuller (Fort Mill School District Teacher of the Year), Heather Ayazi (Support Staff of the Year) and Daniel Lennon (Strawberry Festival pageant director). Winners named during the presentation included York 2 Girl Scouts Troop 3435 (Most Creative), Easy Glass Carolina (Best Holiday Theme), Hajaz Hot Wheels (Best Car), Kingpin Company (Best Golf Cart), Fort Mill School District Transportation (Most Holiday Spirit) and Miller Street Dance Studio (Best Walking Group). Penelope, a town staff member, assisted with handing out awards and photographs.

The council opened the session noting that four members were out sick and that the meeting would be abbreviated. Council members said they could not approve minutes, that there would be no public comment or executive session, and that the employee-of-the-quarter could not attend. The presenter said some winners were not present and would accept awards later or have photographs displayed in town hall.

Mayor (name not specified) described the parade as a longstanding community tradition, saying, “The parade is special because when we're riding in the parade, we can see everybody on both sides of the road.” The presenter closed the awards portion by thanking participants and judges.

No formal votes or council actions were recorded related to the awards; the presentation was informational. The meeting was then adjourned.
