City touts $1 million in annual savings at 25 Washington after Energy Star recognition

City energy staff and contractor Synergistic Savings Company told the Montgomery City Council on Jan. 28 that the municipal building at 25 Washington earned an Energy Star award and that citywide efficiency measures produced about $1,000,000 in savings over the last calendar year and more than $8,000,000 over the life of the program.
Dr. Keisha Bailey, identified in the meeting as the city's energy specialist, presented the award recognition and thanked employees and partners for implementing conservation measures. Bailey said the savings resulted from ongoing efforts by city staff working with Synergistic Savings Company.
Why it matters: municipal energy savings reduce operating costs for the city and can free funds for other services; Energy Star recognition signals that the building meets benchmarked efficiency standards. Council members and staff posed brief remarks of appreciation; no vote was required.
