Board accepts OSPI‑funded study and survey; long‑range facilities committee to focus on three sites

The West Valley School District board accepted a district study and survey funded through an OSPI grant and completed by Designs West, passing Resolution 25‑2501 by unanimous voice vote on Jan. 28.
District staff said the study and survey were commissioned last spring to refresh the long‑range facilities plan. The materials and data were provided to the newly reformed long‑range facilities planning committee for use in prioritizing facility work. The board’s resolution formally accepts the OSPI‑approved study and survey submitted by Designs West and makes it an official district record.
Committee members and board directors said different small working groups independently reached similar conclusions about which buildings require attention. Board members said the groups consistently identified three priority sites: Tandem, Mountain View and the mid‑level (junior high) campus.
Board members asked for additional context about condition scores and whether apparent wear and tear was typical for buildings of a given age. Staff suggested additional written input from district facilities leadership and said Teeter Crocker (Phil Crocker) would gather more information about the identified sites and meet with building principals. The superintendent said the committee will meet every other month, with upcoming meetings scheduled for March 4 and May 6 and a planned fall update to present a recommendation to the board.
The motion to accept the study and survey was made and the board voted aye by Michael Thorner, James Kephart, Mark Strong, Joel Heade and Steve Wolcott; the vote carried 5‑0. Acceptance acknowledges receipt of the OSPI‑approved study and survey; board members discussed but did not adopt specific facility projects during the meeting.
