Tanisha Phillips, the newly elected Cobb County State Court clerk, told the Smart Justice Works podcast that her top priorities are modernizing court records, expanding online and mobile access for court users and investing in staff training and workplace improvements.
Phillips said her goals reflect a long career in the county’s courts. “I started working with the county when I was in college. I went to Clark Atlanta University and majored in criminal justice,” she said, describing roughly 23 years in the magistrate court and earlier appointments in county court leadership. Phillips said she was appointed clerk of court in 2012, served as court administrator beginning in 2019, and won the state court clerk’s election before assuming her current role.
Those experiences, she told host Mackie Mesker, informed a focus on making the clerk’s office “user friendly” and keeping accurate public records. “That is the most important part of our job, is to make sure that we are maintaining accurate records, accurate dockets, keeping the orders, in order,” Phillips said.
