Planning commission approves columbarium at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with conditions

The Thousand Oaks Planning Commission voted 5-0 on Jan. 27 to approve Special Use Permit SUP2024-70015, allowing Holy Trinity Lutheran Church to install two prefabricated cylindrical columbarium structures inside an existing courtyard.
Assistant Planner Tabitha McAtee told the commission each structure is approximately 6 feet, 1 inch tall and 27 square feet in footprint, with each structure accommodating roughly 64 niches for funeral urns. The project site is located in the Rural Exclusive (RE) zone and columbarium structures in that zone require a special use permit when accessory to a place of worship.
