Schertz City Council certifies Jan. 18 runoff, swears in Ben Guerrero as Place 4 member

The Schertz City Council on Jan. 28 approved Resolution 25R010 to canvass the Jan. 18 runoff election and declared Ben Guerrero the winner of City Council Place 4, then administered the oath of office.
The action completes the city’s runoff for Place 4 and fills the seat for the remainder of a three-year term ending in November 2026, according to the resolution presented to the council.
City Secretary Edmondson told the council that the runoff held Jan. 18 produced 518 early votes, 213 absentee votes and 179 election-day votes for a total of 910 ballots cast. “Of the 910 votes cast, Mr. Tim Dasek received a total of 447 votes for a 49.12 percentage. Mr. Ben Guerrero received a total of 463 votes for a 50.88 percentage,” Edmondson said, and recommended the council adopt the canvass.
Council member Davis moved to approve Resolution 25R010, and Council member Hayward seconded. The council voted unanimously — five ayes — to adopt the resolution. The resolution declares Ben Guerrero elected to City Council Place 4 to serve through November 2026.
Following the vote, City Secretary Edmondson administered the oath of office to Guerrero, who then addressed the council and public. Council member Ben Guerrero thanked his supporters and family, saying, "I want to thank God for giving me the courage, strength, and will to start and complete this campaign." He also thanked campaign volunteers and family members who traveled to support him.
During the public-comment period before the canvass, Richard Akins, identified as president of the Schertz Police Association, congratulated the new council member and thanked election workers and voters for participating. "I come here to express our extended congratulations to our newest city council member," Akins said.
Mayor Williams and other council members offered brief congratulations after the oath. The brief special meeting adjourned at about 5:44 p.m.; attendees were invited to light refreshments in the conference room.
