District nurses plan March 27 health fair to connect families with immunizations, screenings and services

Falmouth Public Schools’ nursing team told the school committee on Jan. 14 that the district will host a community health fair on March 27 in the Falmouth High School fieldhouse to provide immunizations, screenings and community-resource connections for families.
What’s planned: The district said community partners committed to the fair include VNA of Cape Cod (vaccine clinics for children under 18), Barnstable County public health nursing, Cape Cod Hospital public-health nursing, Family Service Center, the school district’s Hope Squad, food and nutrition partners, dental-program representatives and organizations that assist with enrollment in MassHealth and SNAP benefits. The district also plans student-led health and physical-activity presentations and student volunteer support.
Why it matters: District nurses said the fair will spotlight school-health services, increase equitable access to care and connect families with enrollment assistance for public benefits. The nurses said one goal is to improve compliance with immunization requirements and to expand community awareness of school-based health support.
Logistics and services: School nurses said the fair will include skin-cancer education, tick- and vector-borne-disease information, asthma and inhaler demonstrations, opioid-overdose recognition and Narcan training (presentations to be scheduled), and help for families with PowerSchool access and other school-technology issues. MassHealth connector staff promised on-site enrollment assistance. The nurses said many presentations and materials will be available in the district’s top five languages.
Ending: Organizers said they will circulate more information and promotional materials ahead of the March 27 event and requested that committee members and local media help publicize the fair.
