Council adopts ordinance 1868 to codify approved ordinances into city code

The Sydney City Council on Jan. 28 adopted Ordinance 1868, approving the editing and inclusion of previously adopted ordinances into the city's codified ordinances and repealing any ordinances in conflict.
City staff described the measure as the annual revisions provided through American Legal, the codification vendor. Council moved to waive the usual three readings, then voted to adopt the ordinance and to publish it. The city clerk read the ordinance title aloud during the meeting: "An ordinance approving the editing and inclusion of certain ordinances as parts of the various component codes of the codified ordinances and repealing ordinances and resolutions in conflict therewith."
The motion to waive three readings passed on roll call; the council then passed the ordinance on roll call and later voted to publish Ordinance No. 1868. The clerk read the ordinance number into the record.
The action was procedural: the ordinance compiles and republishes ordinances already approved by the council into the codified city code and does not itself create new regulatory requirements. The clerk and staff said the update brings the printed/online code book in line with ordinances already passed on the council record.
Councilmember Kirkman moved one of the steps and Bondegaard seconded a motion during the process; roll call votes recorded members answering "Yes."
