Fitcher told the board the CRB had "71 2024 cases" and still has several open older cases from 2023; she said Office of Professional Accountability investigators are now all at sergeant level and total "10" investigators while the CRB has fewer compliance monitors and investigators, creating a workload imbalance.
Members said the board should seek parity in investigative resources and asked staff to include additional compliance monitors or investigator positions in the CRB budget request. The budget committee reported it will meet to finalize the request; the board set a special called meeting to vote on the budget the following week so staff could submit the CRB request into the mayor's budget process.
Board members explained the budget request to the mayor's office is the CRB'level ask; if the mayor's proposal does not include CRB requests, the board can present to the Metro Council budget committee later in the process. The board agreed the budget should reflect the supervisory and caseload realities discussed at the meeting and to prepare supporting data for the mayor's office.
