Freshman student council reports service projects, clubs and upcoming performances

At the start of the Jan. 14 board meeting, officers from the Kings Park High School freshman class (Class of 2028) delivered a student voice presentation summarizing recent club activities and upcoming events.
Sofia Castoro, president of the Freshman Student Council, said recent activities included community service visits by the National History and Civics Honor Society to Storybook Veterans Home and a food fundraiser for Storybook Children's Hospital scheduled for Jan. 21 at Soul Bowl of Kings Park. "Over the past few weeks, many clubs have been working hard to create unforgettable experiences for the students in the high school," Castoro said.
Vice president Molina Chapelle described donations by the National Italian Honor Society and plans to provide Italian lessons for fifth graders. The high school musical Into the Woods is scheduled for April 2'5, 2025, directed by Mr. Flatt, and the Kings Park Jazz Band will perform Feb. 28 for African American Heritage Night. Other officers reported that DECA had two regional winners advancing to states, yearbook deadlines are approaching and the special-education intramural rolling club, weightlifting club, chorus and performing groups are active.
The board thanked the students for their update and noted the schools "provide a lot of opportunities" in academics, arts and athletics. The board president invited the students to stay for the rest of the meeting but said they were welcome to leave if they had other commitments.
