La Grange swears in two lateral hires to police department

La Grange on Monday formally welcomed two new lateral police officers, Alyssa Jersick and Greg Cargi, during the village board meeting.
Village Clerk Clark Saladino administered the oath to both officers. President Kugler introduced each and described their backgrounds: Jersick previously served with the Wheeling Police Department after graduating from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy at the College of DuPage in 2021 and holds a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University. Cargi was appointed to the position of probationary police officer by the LaGrange Board of Fire and Police Commissioners on June 21, 2023; he has a bachelor's degree in criminology and law studies from Marquette University and has worked as a police officer for the Sandwich Police Department since 2014.
Both officers will enter the department's field-training program beginning next week, the board was told. President Kugler and other trustees thanked the officers' families and supporters who attended the ceremony.
Ending: Trustees said they look forward to the officers' service in La Grange and noted the department's use of lateral hires to add experienced personnel.
