Votes at a glance: trustees renew crossing-guard contract and approve Endless Summer Fest

The La Grange Board of Trustees unanimously approved two items in current business Monday: a three-year extension of the village's crossing-guard services agreement with Andy Frane Services Inc. and a special-event authorization for the 2023 Endless Summerfest.

Trustee O'Brien summarized the crossing guard proposal, saying staff solicited a proposal from Andy Frane Services Inc. to continue staffing four schools and 11 crossings. He described the vendor's proposed hourly and annual pricing over three years and said the rates represent an average 3.1% increase per year; staff estimated the three-year total cost of the extension at approximately $434,534. "The proposed rates represent an average 3.1% increase per year for the 3 years of the extension, which is considered reasonable by the staff," O'Brien said.

The board approved a resolution waiving bidding and amending the agreement with Andy Frane Services Inc.; the motion carried on a roll call vote with all trustees present voting aye.

Trustee McGee moved to approve accommodations for the Park District of La Grange and the LaGrange Business Association to hold Endless Summerfest Friday, Aug. 4 through Sunday, Aug. 6, primarily at Gordon Park with related right-of-way and municipal-lot closures. The event was approved with conditions: organizers must coordinate site security and pedestrian access with village staff; reimburse village overtime costs incurred for the event; provide required insurance and hold-harmless agreements; and notify adjacent property owners in writing at least two weeks before the event. Fireworks will not be included this year; organizers told the board they are pursuing a 20-minute laser light show as a safer alternative, and the park district will seek separate liquor-commission approval to sell beer and wine during event hours.

The special-event motion passed unanimously on roll call.
