Exchange student and Rotary ask board to allow foreign exchange students a path to Natrona County diplomas

Marek Bohal, a Rotary Youth Exchange student from the Czech Republic attending Kelly Walsh High School, asked the Natrona County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees for an opportunity to earn a district high school diploma rather than receive only a non-evaluative exchange certificate.
Bohal described a 4.0 unweighted GPA, a 4.63 weighted GPA, and an ACT score of 30, and he told trustees that allowing exchange students to earn diplomas would both benefit individual students and potentially improve local graduation rates and the attractiveness of Casper to future exchange students.
Anthony Martinez, representing the Rotary Club of Casper, supported Bohal and said the Rotary often helps place exchange students and recommended the board consider pathways that recognize academic achievement by exchange students.
Bohal asked whether trustees had questions and thanked the board; no formal motion or policy change was made at the meeting. Trustees later praised exchange students and several trustees encouraged community hosts and noted the district’s ongoing international-exchange involvement.
