Commission continues most firefighter and police candidates after closed‑session reviews

At its Jan. 23 meeting, the Green Bay Police and Fire Commission met in closed session under Wisconsin Statutes §19.85(1)(c) and (f) to review firefighter and police patrol officer candidate backgrounds and to interview patrol officer candidates. The commission reported out after the closed session that it had rejected one firefighter candidate and continued the remaining applicants, and that it had rejected multiple police candidates while continuing others.

The commission reviewed 12 firefighter candidate backgrounds; the panel rejected one candidate and continued 11 in the hiring process. The commission reviewed seven police patrol officer candidate backgrounds, rejecting four and continuing three. Separately, the commission interviewed three patrol officer candidates and decided to continue all three following those interviews. The commission then reconvened in open session and a motion to confirm that report was made and approved by voice vote.

The closed session was taken pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes §19.85(1)(c) and (f), which the commission cited when moving into closed session to consider employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data for public employees. The commission announced the results in open session pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes §19.85(2).
