The Newman City Council voted Jan. 28 to accept a supplemental agreement that increases grant funding from regional sources for a roundabout project at Spraberry Road and Jefferson Street, reducing the city’s local match obligation.
City staff explained that the original project framework agreement obligated the city to $673,000 as the local match on a project with a total indicated federal/regional allocation of $1,252,000. The city obtained additional funding from the Atlanta Regional Commission and the supplemental agreement (Supplemental Agreement No. 1) reduces the required local match to $335,000, a reduction of $337,000.
Staff recommended acceptance of the supplemental agreement; a council motion to accept the change passed without recorded opposition. The council expressed appreciation for the additional funding and approved moving forward with the project under the revised financial terms.
City staff and the council did not discuss specific construction schedules at length during the vote; staff will continue to coordinate project documents and procurement steps with GDOT and regional partners.
