Steven Allen Sutton presented two petitions at the Jan. 28 Scottsdale City Council meeting seeking new dog-park area designation signs and dog-park etiquette signs and asked the council to ensure the petitions are placed on an agenda for a public vote.
Sutton told council he had collected signatures and documentation and asked the council to: reapprove placing the petition subjects on an agenda; vote at the next scheduled council meeting to approve or disapprove adopting and installing the two types of signs; require the city manager’s office to confer with Sutton prior to manufacture and installation if signs are approved; and, if approved, install the signs no later than Feb. 20, 2025.
Sutton said the council had previously accepted the petitions unanimously on Nov. 12, 2024 and that a staff procedural issue caused a delay. He asked the council to avoid further delay and ensure the manager’s office follows through.
Mayor Lisa Borowski responded that the item is already scheduled for the Feb. 11 agenda. "This is actually scheduled for the February 11th agenda already. It it will be on that agenda," she said.
No vote was taken on Jan. 28; Sutton’s request was procedural (placement on an agenda) and the mayor confirmed a target meeting date for council consideration.
Proponents and opponents of the proposed signs may get an opportunity to testify when staff brings the item back for formal council action.
