Riviera Beach officials, designers present Singer Island beach upgrade concepts; boardwalk could cost millions

At a town hall on Singer Island, Riviera Beach officials and private consultants presented conceptual plans for upgrades to the Municipal Beach Park and solicited public input on designs that include a raised boardwalk, additional picnic pavilions, new sports courts and improved pedestrian circulation.

The meeting, led by Councilperson Spears and attended by Councilman Tradrick McCoy, Casey Young (parks and recreation director) and representatives of 2GHO Inc., focused on accessibility, safety and funding. George Gentile and Dan Simpson of 2GHO outlined six project areas — north courts and top lot, north picnic area, a central entry/ shade-sail area, south picnic area and sports courts, and a dune pathway or raised boardwalk — and asked residents to mark preferences on display boards and sticky notes.

“This was my suggestion…to build a boardwalk, right next…in back of the dune so that people can come up and not have to go on the beach to look at the ocean,” Councilperson Spears said, describing the accessibility rationale for a raised structure that would let people view the ocean without walking on the sand.
