Troutdale to restart application for Certified Local Government historic-preservation program

City staff told council on Jan. 28 that Troutdale will resume the application process to join Oregon’s Certified Local Government (CLG) program, a state program that enables additional grant funding and technical support for historic preservation.
Erin Jansen, speaking for the historic-program team, said the council previously approved a resolution in 2021 to apply for CLG status but the application was not submitted during the COVID period. “We just wanted to let you know that we’re going to be applying for this program,” Jansen said, and that the application will require the mayor’s signature.
Why it matters: CLG status would make the city eligible to apply for state preservation grants, support public education activities around historic properties and enable the city to identify and potentially designate local landmarks and districts. Staff said the program can create funding pathways to help property owners restore historic buildings.
