Cherokee Elementary fourth-grader performs original song at Lakota Board meeting

Cherokee Elementary fourth-grader Christian Mudd performed his original song "Life's Blueprint" for the Lakota Board of Education at the Jan. 27 meeting and said the piece was inspired by the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Board members and attendees reacted enthusiastically. "That was fabulous. That's awesome," one board member said after the performance, and Dr. Whiteley thanked Christian for "engaging and sharing your talent with all of us." Christian told the board his music is available on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube and encouraged listeners to subscribe and follow.
Several board members praised the student's lyric about resilience: "Shine your life. Shine your light," Christian sang during the performance. Board members invited Christian to take a photo with the board and said they would help share his work through their contacts.
The superintendent also acknowledged the presence of Deputy Doug Hale, the school's SRO, and noted it was his birthday. Dr. Whiteley thanked him for attending the meeting.
