The El Segundo Unified School District Board of Education on Jan. 28 approved two related resolutions to support applications for state modernization and new-construction funding and to designate a district representative to submit those applications.
A board member summarized the first resolution as required by a recent change in law: districts must have a five‑year facility plan in place to apply for State Allocation Board modernization and new‑construction funds. "Basically what it means is there's a new law that says that we have to have a 5 year facility plan in place if we are applying for modernization, and new construction funds," the board member said. The resolution allows the district to continue previously filed applications and to work on the required five‑year plan.
The board then approved a companion resolution to name a district representative and authorize participation in State Allocation Board programs; CFO Kim Linz was designated to submit paperwork on behalf of the district. "This would label me as a designee to submit paperwork on behalf of the district," Linz said. Both resolutions passed by unanimous voice vote; individual roll-call votes were not recorded in the meeting transcript.
Board members noted that the actions preserve the district's ability to pursue modernization funds as facility planning continues. The board indicated the five‑year plan will be developed as part of upcoming work on modernization priorities and related budgeting.
