Slate Communications presented an update on the city’s draft communications plan at the council meeting. Kristen Nold, director of strategic communications for Slate, led a question-and-answer session with council members to gather council priorities and language that could be used in the plan.
Council members said the overarching goal should be transparency and easy access to city information. "I don't want our citizens to have to ask what's going on at city hall," one council member said, urging that information be readily available online and in other formats. Members noted the need to reach residents who prefer print or in‑person outreach, and to pair social media with other methods such as flyers, newspapers and targeted in‑person events.
Nold described the consultant team’s outreach to stakeholders and noted the draft plan is moving from vision statements to the “tools and tactics” stage. She asked council to supply short, one‑line descriptors of Turlock to help position the plan; council responses highlighted a "small‑town feel" combined with growth and economic opportunity.
The session concluded with Nold requesting any further input; staff and the consultant will incorporate council feedback as the plan advances toward an implementation phase. No council action was required that evening.
