Board approves zoning amendments, traffic code update and $8,000 SRO stipend; multiple appointments confirmed

The Bartlett Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Jan. 29 approved the second reading of two ordinances, accepted $8,000 from the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance to supplement school resource officers' pay, adopted a consent agenda and confirmed a slate of appointments to city boards and commissions.
The board unanimously approved the minutes of its Jan. 14 meeting after a motion from Alderman David Reed, seconded by Alderman Brad King. The board then voted unanimously to pass the second reading of Ordinance 24-14, which amends the city zoning ordinance by adding definitions and adjusting language related to parking, storage and the use of major recreational equipment in residential districts. Trey Arthur, the city's director of code enforcement, told the board the draft had been revised to remove a screening requirement and relocate definitions into a consolidated section.
Also by unanimous vote, the board passed the second reading of Ordinance 24-15, described by Court Clerk J.J. Leatherwood as an update that incorporates state changes into the city's rules of the road adopted previously.
On the consent agenda, the board approved two items: the purchase of personal protective equipment for new recruits and authorization to auction surplus property. The consent agenda passed 6-0. The board also approved Resolution 05-25, which amends the FY2025 general fund budget to accept $8,000 from the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance and appropriates that amount as a one-time bonus for certified police personnel assigned as school resource officers.
The board confirmed a large slate of appointments and reappointments across multiple advisory boards and commissions, including new and continuing members for the Bartlett Library Advisory Board, Planning Commission, Industrial Development Board, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Pension Board and others; the clerk read roughly 14 pages of names into the record before the board voted to approve the slate.
A motion to reappoint Johnny Byrd as city chaplain was moved and seconded and carried without recorded opposition.
No further votes were recorded and the board adjourned at the close of the meeting.
