Commissioner Watts told the court that Road and Bridge now operates more gasoline vehicles and the precinct yards do not maintain stored fuel, which can leave crews at a disadvantage. He said the current card limit had historically been $500 and was mainly used for tag renewals; the proposed $1,000 limit would allow precincts to make routine purchases such as fuel, supplies and emergency repairs without delay.
Commissioners discussed whether precinct 5 should be excluded because it has a different balance; the court agreed to raise the limit for all precincts so the cards are uniform across precincts. County staff and commissioners said the debit cards remain subject to county policy restrictions and auditing procedures.
The motion to raise the maximum allowable amount to $1,000 was made by Commissioner Beauchamp and seconded by Commissioner Concannon. The court approved the motion by voice vote; the motion carried 5-0.
No additional policy changes beyond the card limit were adopted during the discussion.
