The transfer records an October 2022 vehicle exchange. Matt (county staff) told the court that two 2016 Chevrolet Tahoes were transferred between the Criminal District Attorney’s office (CDA) and the Sheriff’s Office in October 2022. One Tahoe was a forfeiture vehicle for which the county issued a $26,000 payment; the other transfer left the CDA owed $24,000 that was not recorded on the October 31, 2022 agenda. Matt said both offices had agreed at the time to the transfer but the budget action was overlooked and must be recorded now ‘for auditing’ so the CDA is made whole.
Commissioners discussed that the transfer is a bookkeeping correction within the general fund and that the sheriff’s office does not contest the item. The money will increase the CDA’s capital budget and reduce the Sheriff’s available capital funds in 2025; Matt said the CDA expects to use the funds to purchase a vehicle that had been included on its capital list.
The court approved the amendment by voice vote. The courtroom recorded the motion as carried 5-0.
Court staff noted the irregularity stems from the transfer not being placed on the 2022 agenda; the current action amends that prior court order so the transaction appears on county records.
