State legislator Greta Neubauer visits Mount Pleasant, asks residents for input on 2025 state budget

Greta Neubauer, who identified herself at the meeting as a recently reelected minority leader, addressed the Village of Mount Pleasant board and members of the public on Jan. 20 and encouraged residents to share priorities for the 2025 state budget.
Neubauer, who said the new legislative maps place almost all of Mount Pleasant in her district, described the early schedule for the budget process: the governor’s budget is scheduled to be rolled out on Feb. 18; finance committee listening sessions typically occur in March; and joint finance committee actions follow. She said she will hold listening sessions and mentioned one she planned at IMET on Feb. 6.
"We did start the new session earlier this month and we are off to the races," Neubauer said, adding that the first several months of the year are budget-focused and that officials will consider shared revenue, public safety and schools. She invited residents, staff and board members to speak with her after the meeting and to share priorities their constituents have raised.
The village president welcomed Neubauer and said the board would appreciate advance notice if she wished to be placed on a future agenda so the board could prepare for extended engagement. No formal action or vote followed this public comment; Neubauer’s remarks were part of the public comment portion of the meeting.
