Jennifer Moffitt of the Polk County Delinquent Tax Office presented the office’s annual report for the fiscal period Oct. 1, 2023–Sept. 30, 2024 to the Polk County Commissioner’s Court.
Moffitt said the office mailed 23,744 warning notices during the fiscal year to taxpayers on the delinquent tax roll with current addresses. The office filed 256 real‑property and personal‑property lawsuits covering 389 accounts. There were 44 lawsuit dismissals totaling more than $1,000,000 in taxes, penalties and interest that were dismissed, and 42 judgments were taken on lawsuits involving $529,941 in delinquent taxes. The office recorded 31 releases of judgments after payments totaling about $203,000.
On tax sales, the office took 38 tracts of real property to sheriff’s sale during the reporting period; property sold during that time totaled $1,167,295, and attendance at sheriff’s sales remained strong, Moffitt said. A five‑year comparison in the packet showed collections remained steady, and packet materials included a year‑to‑year collection comparison and turnover rates.
There was no formal action requested on the report; commissioners accepted the informational presentation and asked staff to make office materials available for follow‑up questions.
