Representatives of Rib Knights Snowmobile Club told the Wausau Room Tax Commission on Jan. 27 that they would withdraw their room-tax grant application for a planned Feb. 15 snow event because weather and lack of snow make holding a race unlikely.
Jennifer, who handles fundraising and membership for Rib Knights, and Joe Bauer, the club president, told commissioners that the race has been canceled previously and that the club needs enough snow to build a track; Bauer said organizers have hauled in large quantities of snow in prior years. Jennifer said the club had requested $5,000 in room-tax funding, with an estimated $2,000 to $2,510 for radio marketing, but that the club would return funds if an event is canceled.
Jennifer told the commission she had emailed the city multiple times about the application and received no reply; commission staff acknowledged the commission recently introduced a new application process and said they would check whether notifications were delivered. After discussion, Rib Knights withdrew the application for the 2025 event; no formal vote was taken on the request.
Commissioners suggested the club reapply in a later window if the event is rescheduled and offered to help coordinate lodging and promotion with local partners.
