The Planning Commission recommended approval Jan. 28 of a rezoning request that would change a 2.22‑acre parcel at 2125 Jackson Road from R‑2 (single-family residential) to AR‑1 (agricultural/residential). Owner Mark Anderson told the commission he plans to keep bees and cultivate agricultural products on the property.
Commission staff said AR‑1 allows a broader set of agricultural uses than R‑2. Commissioners approved the rezoning with a condition limiting any roadside sales to honey or other agricultural products; the conditional recommendation passed unanimously and will be considered by the Board of Commissioners at its Feb. 27 meeting.
The commission also approved a companion variance related to lot-size technicalities tied to the rezoning. Anderson told commissioners he does not plan to operate a roadside stand but hoped to sell honey through local businesses; staff’s condition preserves the county’s ability to allow a small roadside stand limited to agricultural products if the owner pursues that option.
Commissioners and neighbors praised the applicant’s restoration of an historic home on the site and welcomed beekeeping as an agricultural activity compatible with AR‑1 zoning.
