Washington Township honors Teachers and Educational Services Professionals of the Year

Washington Township School District presented its annual Teachers of the Year and Educational Services Professionals (ESP) of the Year awards during the Jan. 9 board meeting at Washington Township High School.
The awards program recognized classroom teachers and support staff from preschool through high school for classroom impact, leadership and extracurricular involvement. Winners were called forward by principals and supervisors; many colleagues and students offered short tributes during the ceremony.
Among the named honorees were preschool Teacher of the Year Megan Fizzemeyer (Greendlock), Bells Elementary Teacher of the Year Melissa Hermely, Birches/Bunker Hill/Birches-area honorees Sandy Fitzpatrick and Nick Gerreri at the middle-school and high-school levels, and Sherian Yan and Shannon Malloy at Washington Township High School. Educational Services Professionals honored included Jeff Bevins and Mr. Jay (Jedwabney), among others.
Board President and district leaders thanked the recipients and invited the honorees for photos and a reception following the meeting. Superintendent Dr. Hibbs and principals highlighted winners’ classroom practices, leadership roles and community contributions as reasons for their selection.
The ceremony was followed by brief regular-meeting business. District leaders noted plans to publicize the honorees and distribute certificates recognizing School Board Appreciation Month.
The district did not take policy or budget actions specifically tied to these recognitions during the presentation; the event was ceremonial and informational.
