Moorhead mayor: diversion authority approves 2025 budget; city seeks $60 million for flood mitigation

Mayor Shelley Carlson told the council on Jan. 27 that the Diversion Authority approved a working 2025 budget of $424,559,689.
The mayor said Moorhead’s legislative flood mitigation request totals $60,000,000 and covers both in-town and out-of-town Clay County projects; for the city specifically she said the request is $60,000,000 for seven lift stations. Carlson said weekly legislative check-ins among partners are continuing to track the request through the legislative process.
She also advised that MnDOT reconstruction on Highway 1075 will not begin until after 11th Street work is complete and directed residents to MnDOT’s project website for proposals and schedules.
The council did not take an additional vote on the diversion budget or the flood-mitigation funding request during the meeting; the mayor described the Diversion Authority’s approval as a working budget for the project.
