Moorhead arts commission highlights 2024 River Arts expansion, Sculpture Walk growth in annual report

The Moorhead Arts and Culture Commission reviewed its 2024 annual report at a meeting on Jan. 27, 2025, highlighting expanded River Arts programming, partnerships with the Moorhead Farmers Market and growth of the Moorhead Sculpture Walk.
Commission staff member Ethan said the River Arts expansion, undertaken with Moorhead Parks and Recreation, was combined with the Moorhead Farmers Market in 2024 and attracted larger crowds. "This year, it was combined with the Moorhead Farmers Market, which enabled even larger crowds," Ethan said.
The report also noted the commission recommended approval for Folkways to host a "Sunset on the Riverfront" event; after weather-related delays the event occurred with music, vendors, seating and other features. The commission supported installation of nine new sidewalk stamps along First Avenue North as part of the Eleventh Street Underpass construction and launched a 2024 call for art that included a request for an Indigenous sculpture for the Moorhead Sculpture Walk.
Ethan told commissioners the 2024 work would shape programming priorities going into 2025 and thanked the commission for its time and support. "So thank you all again for a very successful year and let me know if you have any questions," he said.
Commissioners did not take a separate formal vote on the annual report at the time the summary was presented; the report overview preceded discussion of the 2024 call for art and other agenda items.
The commission proceeded to the next agenda item after the presentation and public announcements about upcoming local arts events were made by individual commissioners and attendees.
